Day 1: Fes to Merzouga via Ifrane, Azrou, and Ziz Valley
Start your journey from Fes, heading to Ifrane. This mountain town is known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture and clean air.
Next, stop in Azrou to visit the cedar forest, home to Barbary macaques. Then drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing Midelt. Descend into the Ziz Valley, filled with palm groves and dramatic cliffs.
Arrive in Merzouga, the entrance to the Erg Chebbi dunes. In the evening, ride camels into the Sahara to watch the sunset. Spend the night in a desert camp under a sky full of stars.
Day 2: Explore Merzouga and Surroundings
Rise early to catch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, ride back by camel to Merzouga.
Visit Khamlia village, where you’ll enjoy traditional Gnawa music from descendants of sub-Saharan communities. Eat lunch in a local restaurant.
Take a walk through a palm grove, then drive to Dayet Srji, a seasonal lake that often attracts flamingos. Dinner and overnight stay in a nearby hotel.
Day 3: Merzouga to Dades Gorges via Erfoud and Todra
After breakfast, head to Erfoud, a town famous for fossils and its date market.
Continue through the oases of Touroug and Tinejdad. Stop at the towering Todra Gorges for a short walk and lunch.
Later, drive to the Dades Gorges, a stunning canyon carved by the river. Spend the night in a guesthouse nestled in the valley.
Day 4: Dades to Marrakech via Valley of the Roses and Ait Ben Haddou
Begin the day with a scenic drive along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Stop in the Valley of the Roses in Kelaat M’Gouna, famous for rose festivals and beauty products.
Continue to the UNESCO-listed Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a historic fortress used in films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Enjoy lunch and a guided tour of the site.
Cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains. End the tour in Marrakech around 5 PM.
