Day 1: From Agadir to Dades Gorges via Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate
Begin your Agadir to Merzouga desert tour by heading into the scenic Atlas Mountains. Along the way, stop at the spectacular Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site with iconic clay buildings. This historic ksar has served as the backdrop for many famous films.
Next, continue toward Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Visit the impressive Taourirt Kasbah, a well-preserved example of Moroccan earthen architecture.
After that, travel through the green Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations and ancient villages. Finally, arrive at the breathtaking Dades Gorges and spend the night in a guesthouse overlooking the canyon.
Day 2: From Dades to Merzouga via Todra and Erfoud
After breakfast, head east toward the Todra Gorges. These massive limestone cliffs rise 300 meters and are a favorite among climbers and nature lovers.
Then, continue to Erfoud, a desert town famous for fossils and date palms. Take a short break to explore the fossil shops and market stalls.
Later, reach the magical village of Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes. From here, ride a camel across golden sands and enjoy the serene desert landscape.
As the sun sets, arrive at your desert camp. Spend the evening around the fire, savoring a traditional dinner under the stars.
Day 3 : Erg Chebbi – Alnif – Tamgroute – Zagora Tinfou
Depart from Erg Chebbi to Alnif, a charming town known for its fossil finds. Continue to Tamgroute to explore its historic attractions, including the ancient library and pottery workshops. Journey to Zagora Tinfou for a tranquil desert evening and overnight stay.
Day 4: Zagora Tinfou – Taznakht – Taroudant – Agadir
In the morning, drive toward Taznakht, a town well known for handmade Berber carpets. Stop to browse local weaving cooperatives.
After that, continue to Taliouine, the saffron capital of Morocco. Learn about saffron farming and visit a local cooperative, especially if you’re traveling during harvest season.
Next, travel through the Souss Valley and stop in Taroudant, often called “Little Marrakech” for its bustling souks and city walls.
Finally, return to Agadir, completing your tour with a heart full of memories from the Moroccan desert.
